Record $18 million civil rights verdict.

In a case of mistaken identity, a federal jury in California recently awarded $18 million to a middle school teacher who claimed a Los Angeles sheriff's detective falsely arrested him, accused him of kidnapping and sexual assault of a young girl, and then ignored evidence that would have helped clear him.

Settlements in McMahon lawsuit have eclipsed the $7 million mark.

LOS ANGELES — Settlements in a mold lawsuit filed by former Tonight Show sidekick Ed McMahon have eclipsed the $7 million mark, HarrisMartin Publishing is reporting.

McMahon v. American Equity Insurance Co., et al., No. BC271423 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).
